NYC Way Free iPhone App: 30+ NYC Apps in One for NYC BigApps Competition -- Connects government, people, places and experiences
(PRWEB) December 21, 2009 -- NYC Way (www.nycway.com) is an iPhone application that bundles a variety of local resources useful for residents and tourists alike. It happens to be one of the first mobile apps to combine a wide variety of data sets from NYC GOV (and various other third party data sets), location awareness and social media. The users get to experience the power of 30+ NYC related iPhone apps packaged into one.
Based around the theme of making our government more transparent, NYC Way is a big step to help NYC GOV share their rich data sets with the rest of us using mobile platforms and social media. It uses various data sets from NYC Data Mine, and many others available via NYC GOV.
NYC Way is location aware and provides you with information sorted by proximity - based on where you are. The app allows you to update your facebook status or send out a tweet about any place you discovered or visited – making you the true NYC Reporter.
At the time of reporting, NYC Way stands to be the most voted for application in Mayor Bloomberg's NYC BigApps Competition.
OneDerr Inc (www.onederr.com), a company based out of Jersey City, made the application available in the iTunes app store on Dec 4, 2009. In the upcoming release, OneDerr Inc. plans to implement real-time location v/s interest analysis, and hook the app up to a sophisticated Complex Event Processing backend that would correlate user interests and actions with current situation and location to make valuable local recommendations.
Available for free in the iTunes App Store, NYC Way includes a ton of local resources. Some of the resources highlighted in the youtube demo and on the main screen are Nearest WiFi Hotspot Locations, NYC Restaurant Inspection Results, Major NYC Tourist Attractions, NYC Street Eats (NYC Street Vendors), NYC Coffee Shops, NYC Gadget Stores, NYC Events, NYC Live Traffic Cams and Traffic Updates, NYC Subway Station Locations and Alerts, NYC Police Stations, Wanted Criminals, Average Emergency Response Times, Nearest Waste Disposal Sites and Waste Collection Schedules, Nearest Post Offices, 24 Hour Pharmacies, Swine Flu Vaccination Locator, Parking Ticket Search, Volunteer Opportunities, NYC local News including NY Times, NY Post, WNBC etc. and NYC Recreation including ice skating rinks, zoos, aquariums, museums.
"We are already working on building this app for Washington DC, San Francisco, Chicago and London.", says Archana from OneDerr Inc. "The next logical step will be to make it available on Android and Blackberry. We hope to get some funding from angel investors or VC firms to accomplish all of this, especially when we start in-app sales of featured products from local vendors."
